ABOUT THE BOOK: This is one of the most in-depth English translations which thoroughly deals with the subject of at-Tasweer (drawings, paintings, photography etc.). It contains the translations of some of the most comprehensive discussions of all matters connected to the issue of Tasweer.
It includes excerpts from two of the many books written in clarification of some of the mistakes of Shaykh Yusuf al-Qaradaawee in his book "The Lawful and Prohibited in Islam". Both Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan and Shaykh al-Albaanee have clearly outlined and convincingly refuted the mistakes of Shaykh Yusuf al-Qaradaawee.
The issues dealing with drawings, sketches, photographs, and statues, are clearly presented and discussed. Are passport pictures, ID's and pictures of cars, boats, etc., permissible? Are pictures of living organic creatures (Naam) such as trees, flowers, etc., permissible? Is an image taken with a camera different from a hand drawn image? What about a video taped image? The position of the jumhoor (majority of the scholars) on these issues as well as those who differ are presented.
As a bonus, the author has included two appendices: A) Avoiding the doubtful matters and B) television. These two discussions are sure to raise the reader's consciousness concerning these two issues and cause the reader to confront the hidden harms involved in "engaging in doubtful matters" and "watching television."

This is the thesis which Michael Adams and Christopher Mayhew maintain in this book. Each of them is singularly well qualified to write on the topic: each at first approached the problems of the Middle East without preconceptions; each learned gradually, and often at the cost of personal sacrifice, how shockingly difficult it was to publish, through any of the ordinary media, opinions, or proven fact, critical of Zionism and favourable to the Arab states.
The newspapers, the radio and television appeared to be working on the simple assumption that Israel was invariably and unquestionably right, the
Arabs wrong. Any suggestion to the contrary provoked an incredible spate of protest and even of abuse from a number of people, many of power and influence, who, usually in full sincerity, also held that assumption. For the Arabs, few voices spoke, and these risked obloquy and threats.
With malice toward none, and with scrupulous documentation of their case, the authors have attempted to show that fair debate and balanced judgment have been suppressed in Britain, on a matter which is of moment to us all and which may prove critical, even disastrous, for the whole world.
Congressman Paul Findley's trip to South Yemen to plead for the release of an imprisoned U.S. citizen started him on an unexpected journey through the World of Islam that continued for twenty-five years and inspired this book.
He chronicles his far-flung trail of discovery, the false stereotypes of Islam that linger in the minds of the American people, the corrective actions that the leaders of America's seven million Muslims are undertaking, and the community's remarkable progress in main stream politics.
