Martin Lings's Life of Muhammad is unlike any other. Based on Arabic sources of the eighth and ninth centuries, of which some important passages are translated here for the first time, it owes the freshness and directness of its approach to the words of the men and women who heard Muhammad speak and witnessed the events of his life. Martin Lings has an unusual gift for narrative. He has adopted a style which is at once extremely readable and reflects both the simplicity and grandeur of the story. The result is something that can be read with equal enjoyment by those already familiar with Muhanumad's life and those coming to it for the first time.
This book was awarded a prize by the government of Pakistan, and selected as the best biography of the prophet in English at the National Seerat Conference held in 1983 at Islamabad. In 1990, after the book had attracted the attention of the Azhar University in Cairo, the author received a decoration from President Mubarak.

"There was a request made of me during my visits to the Islamic lands... The brothers asked me to compose a book for the righteous believing youth there as well as the Muslims in the general area, to serve as a law or a statute for them. It should comprise all that concerns the righteous Muslim regarding his creed, manners, providing direction for righteous character and acts of worship, and dealings with his colleagues. This book should be based on the light of the Book of Allah the Almighty and the guidance of the Messenger of Allah pbuh
"I responded to the righteous brothers' request, seeking help from Allah to compose the requested Minhaj. From the first day of my return to the Holy Land (Makkah and Al-Madinah), I started composing, revising, and correcting. Despite my limited spare time and the great responsibilities I bear, Allah the Almighty, has blessed the few hours I managed to save from my days pocket filled with concerns and preoccupation. Only two years had passed since my start and the book was composed exactly as I hoped and as the brothers requested. Arabic Text Transliteration and translation
Ibn Rushd's Bida yat al-Mujtahid occupies a unique place among the
authoritative manuals of Islamic law. It is designed to prepare the jurist
for the task of the mujTahiti, the independent jurist, who derives the law and lays down precedents to be followed by the judge in the administration of justice. In this manual Ibn Rushed traces most of the issues of Islamic law, describing not only what the law is, but also elaborating the methodology of some of the greatest legal minds in Islam to show how such laws were derived.
This text provides a still-relevant basis for the interpretation and formulation of Islamic law. Combining his legal and philosophical knowledge, Ibn Rushed transcends the boundaries of different schools and presents a critical analysis of the opinions of the famous Muslim jurists and their methodologies.
The legal subject areas covered include marriage and divorce; sale and exchange of goods; wages, crop-sharing and speculative partnership; security for debts and insolvency; gifts, bequests and inheritance; and offences and judgements.
