Allaah has made the prohibition of evil and the enjoining of good obligatory upon this Ummah, and has coupled with the fulfilment of this duty the best of this world and the Hereafter. The Ummah will never achieve its superiority, or gain its strength and nobility, or succeed in prosperity unless each individual, every man and woman, undertake their duties to the best of their capabilities among the most important of these being to enjoin good and forbid evil. However, it can be seen that many who are aware of the responsibility to enjoining good and forbidding evil and its importance limit this duty, either in thinking and in practice, or just in practice to the role of men and not women. They think that there is no demand on the woman for this religious duty in any way. This entails corruption and ruin which cannot be hidden from those who have intellect and insight; the man who is responsible for the home may leave for the masjid to pray to his Lord, while his children, in the presence of his wife, see and hear that which Allaah has forbidden. An excellent book dealing with the woman's role in Islam, and more specifically the rights, responsibilities and other elements involved with women in the Shari'ah (Islamic law). In dispelling numerous myths surrounding this topic, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan teaches the pure Islamic view on the subject, including the rulings from the Qur'an and Hadith, the qualities of a believing woman, womanhood in Islam, the status of women as mothers, the rights of wife and husband, divorce, polygamy, dowry, hijab, and more. A special section at the end discusses successful marriages, for the practicing Muslim couple.

In six short, concise chapters Muhammad Shoomaan has brought together a collection of authentic ahaadeeth and many Aayaat to aid the Muslimah towards righteousness and advise and encourage her with regards to her husbands rights upon her and how she can attain the pleasure of her Creator by doing so. You may find some of the wording harsh, or even strange, but the fault isn't in the text, rather in ourselves due to this society where the 'choices' are only the western liberal choices and hence we have become accustomed to moulding ourselves in a particular way - sometimes quite alien from Islaam. This detailed and significant study is powerful critique of the popular western notion that the veil is a symbol of Muslim oppression. The author straddles many academic disciplines; political theory, feminism, anthropology, sociology, history as well as Middle Eastern and Islamic studies. The author's research is wide-ranging - from the historical background behind the western stereotyping of the veil and the influence of the colonial era, to modern veiling trends in Muslim and non-Muslim countries. Her analysis includes interviews with a group of Muslim women from various backgrounds in Toronto, Canada.
