I therefore sought the guidance of Allaah in gathering the "Islamic equipment" that will overcome Shaytaan and his party. The Bible, the Qur'an and Science is an outcome of a long and sustained effort of Dr. Maurice Bucaille, an eminent French surgeon, scientist and scholar. It represents the sum-total of his life-long investigation about science and scriptures and their mutual relationship. This work has proved to be a unique contribution in the field of religion and science. The book appeared some twenty-five years ago in its original French version. Later it was translated into English and earned a wide readership of enthusiastic admirers. It was translated into several other languages including Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Urdu and Malay. The author examines the origins of the Old Testament, sources and history of the Gospels and highlights evidence of science in it. He explores the authenticity of the Qur'an, identifies scientific phenomena described in the Qur'an such as the creation of heavens and earth, astronomy, earth science, water cycle, animal and plant kingdoms and human reproduction. Dr. Maurice Bucaille addressed the French Academy of Medicine in 1976 concerning the existence in the Qur'an of certain statements on physiology and reproduction. The Western world as concentrated its intellectual energies upon the study of the quantitative aspects of things, thus developing a science of Nature, whose all too obvious fruits in the physical domain have won for it's the greatest esteem among people everywhere, for most of whom "science" is identified with technology and its applications. Islamic science, by contrast, seeks ultimately to attain such knowledge as will contribute toward the spiritual perfection and; deliverance of anyone capable of studying it; thus its fruits are inward and hidden, its values more difficult to discern. To understand it requires placing one-self within its perspective, and accepting as legitimate a science of Nature, which has a different end, and uses different means, from those of modern science. If it is unjust to identify Western science solely with its material results, it is even more unjust to judge medieval science by its outward "usefulness" alone. However important its uses may have been in calendarial work, in irrigation, in architecture, its ultimate aim has always, been to relate the corporeal. world to its basic spiritual principle, through the knowledge of those symbols which unite the various orders of reality. It can only be understood, and should only be judged, in terms of its own aims and its own perspectives."

Ruling over the world of science in the 19th century, the materialist philosophy had proposed that the universe is an uncontrolled heap of matter that existed since infinite time. The discoveries made in the twentieth century, however, entirely refuted this materialist claim. Today, science has proven that the universe had a beginning, that is, it was created from nothing. With this beginning called the Big Bang, both matter and time were created from nothing. Description of the book The Qur'an, however, is not a book of Science but a book of 'Signs'. These signs invite Man to realize the purpose of his existence on earth, and to live in harmony with Nature. The Qur'an is truly a message from Allah, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. It contains the same Message of the Oneness of God, that was preached by all prophets, right from Adam, Moses, Jesus to Muhammad (peace be upon them). Several detailed tomes have been written on the subject of Qur'an and modern science and further research in this field is on. Insha'Allah, this research will help mankind to come closer to the Words of the Almighty. This booklet contains only a few of the scientific facts present in the Qur'an. I cannot claim to have done full justice to the subject. Prof. Tejasen accepted Islam on the strength of just one scientific 'sign' mentioned in the Qu'ran. Some people may require ten signs while some may require hundred signs to be convinced about the Divine origin of the Qur'an. Some would be unwilling to accept the Truth even after being shown a thousand signs.
