AHMAD VON DENFFER was born in Germany in 1949. He studied Islamic and Social Anthropology at the University of Mainz. He joined The Islamic Foundation as Research Fellow in 1978. He is currently working with the Islamic Centre, Munich, Germany. His other publications include: Der Koran (New translation of the Qur'an in German Language), Literature on Hadith in European Languages: A Biblioography and a German translation of Nawawi's Forty Hadith and Islam for Children. Compiled in the fourteenth century AD by a prominent Syrian scholar, Al-Sira al-Nabawiyya by Ibn Kathy is a full examination, in chronological order, of the background, life and mission of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. Drawn from the earliest and most reliable Arabic sources, it offers, in this English translation, the fullest available account of the historical circumstances and personalities most important in the founding of Islam. Ibn Bather's work offers a fine example of Islamic scholarship; the quotations and anecdotes that constitute its core are evaluated in terms of the trustworthiness of their sources.Variant wordings that are related through differing lines of transmission are noted, and Ibn Kathir gives both his own assessments and those of the earliest Islamic authorities concerning the likely authenticity of these records. The comments and conversations, derived from ancient texts, that are quoted in this work constitute the basis of our knowledge of Islam during the lifetime of its founder. Volume III gives details of the numerous battles and campaigns waged between 3 Ax and 8 Ax to defend and spread the religion of Islam. The Prophet's Night Journey And Ascent Into Heaven. `Abd-Allah Hajjaj has compiled from al-Fath al-Bari a selection of Hadith on the Isra', the Prophet Muhammad's (S) Night-Journey from the Kab' ah in Makkah to Bayt al-Maqdis - Jerusalem, and the Mi'raj, the Prophet Muhammad's (S) ascension to heaven. This superb book is indeed a rich storehouse of knowledge, a lighthouse of guidance and an inspiration for mankind. This succinct account of the Prophet Muhammad's life, blessings and peace be upon him, based on the earliest sources, describes his difficulties the first muslims faced.

War and Peace in the Life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), seeks to bring into sharper focus the relevance of the Prophet's exemplary life in our times. In doing so, the misperception is allayed that Islam is inextricably linked with violence. "The Prophet's Miracles" is a selection from Ibn Kathir's al-Bidayah wan-Nihaya. During his preaching, the Prophet was often called upon to demonstrate miracles. And, he did oblige those who demanded like the splitting of the moon. However, certain miracles were part of his mission like the Quran. Allah revealed it to him and it is a lasting miracle till the end of the world. Then, there are so many things that he said will happen as also the signs of the Last Day.... We see many of them coming true as others will take place. Miracles of other Prophets have also been narrated. At the same time, Ibn Kathir (RA) has sifted the fabricated accounts which have found themselves in books of Sirah.

Martin Lings's Life of Muhammad is unlike any other. Based on Arabic sources of the eighth and ninth centuries, of which some important passages are translated here for the first time, it owes the freshness and directness of its approach to the words of the men and women who heard Muhammad speak and witnessed the events of his life. Martin Lings has an unusual gift for narrative. He has adopted a style which is at once extremely readable and reflects both the simplicity and grandeur of the story. The result is something that can be read with equal enjoyment by those already familiar with Muhanumad's life and those coming to it for the first time. This book was awarded a prize by the government of Pakistan, and selected as the best biography of the prophet in English at the National Seerat Conference held in 1983 at Islamabad. Since then it has been published in French, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Dutch, Malay and Tamil, and is shortly to be published in Arabic, German, Urdu, Sindhi and Sinhalese. In 1990, after the book had attracted the attention of the Azhar University in Cairo, the author received a decoration from President Mubarak.
