AHMAD VON DENFFER was born in Germany in 1949. He studied Islamic and Social Anthropology at the University of Mainz. He joined The Islamic Foundation as Research Fellow in 1978. He is currently working with the Islamic Centre, Munich, Germany. His other publications include: Der Koran (New translation of the Qur'an in German Language), Literature on Hadith in European Languages: A Biblioography and a German translation of Nawawi's Forty Hadith and Islam for Children. A DAY WITH THE PROPHET is a short but comprehensive guide for anyone who would like to know about the Prophet's (blessings of Allah and peace be upon him) daily life. It invites Muslims and non-Muslims to acquaint themselves with the Prophet's Sunna and inspires them to follow it with sincerity and devotion. The ahadith have been selected from well-known collections of hadith-literature to present a composite picture of the life of the Prophet described in the Qur'an as the `best model'. THE ISLAMIC FOUNDATION is an educational and research organization devoted to making Islam a living reality in our age. For this purpose, it aims to improve human communication and develope a better understanding of Islam among all people of the world, Muslim and non-Muslim, so as to galvanise man to the message and ideal of One God and the unity of mankind, as brought by all the Prophet's of God throughout the ages, last of whom was the Prophet Muhammad (blessings of Allah and peace be on him).

By Ibn Kathir

Compiled in the fourteenth century AD by a prominent Syrian scholar, Al-Sira al-Nabawiyya by Ibn Kathy is a full examination, in chronological order, of the background, life and mission of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. Drawn from the earliest and most reliable Arabic sources, it offers, in this English translation, the fullest available account of the historical circumstances and personalities most important in the founding of Islam. Ibn Bather's work offers a fine example of Islamic scholarship; the quotations and anecdotes that constitute its core are evaluated in terms of the trustworthiness of their sources.Variant wordings that are related through differing lines of transmission are noted, and Ibn Kathir gives both his own assessments and those of the earliest Islamic authorities concerning the likely authenticity of these records. The comments and conversations, derived from ancient texts, that are quoted in this work constitute the basis of our knowledge of Islam during the lifetime of its founder. Volume III gives details of the numerous battles and campaigns waged between 3 Ax and 8 Ax to defend and spread the religion of Islam. Ibn Kathir was born in approximately 1313 in the Boesra district of eastern Damascus, and studied with the many great scholars working in the city during his time. He died in 1374. 5. The Isra And Miraj
By Abd-Allah Hajjaj

The Prophet's Night Journey And Ascent Into Heaven. `Abd-Allah Hajjaj has compiled from al-Fath al-Bari a selection of Hadith on the Isra', the Prophet Muhammad's (S) Night-Journey from the Kab' ah in Makkah to Bayt al-Maqdis - Jerusalem, and the Mi'raj, the Prophet Muhammad's (S) ascension to heaven. This selection of Hadith takes us from Makkah to Jerusalem then up to the seven heavens, to the meetings with previous prophets and shows us the wonders of Paradise. The Isra' and Mi'raj are of great importance to all Muslims, for this is when Allah commanded the five daily prayers, one of the five pillars of Islam. Also Prophet Muhammad (S) leading all the other prophets in prayer shows that Islam is the fulfilment and perfection of mankind's religious development, and that he was the last and greatest of Allah's Messengers.

6. Image Of The Prophet Mohammad In The West
By Jabal M Buaben

JABAL MUHAMMAD BUABEN, presently Lecturer in Islamic Studies, Centre for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations (CSIC), Selly Oak Colleges, University of Birmingham (UK), obtained his BA (Hons.) and Dip. Ed. from Cape Coast, Ghana and his Masters and Ph.D degrees from the CSIC. He taught for almost a decade in the faculty of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, International Islamic University, Malaysia. The abridged version of his MA Thesis, A Comparative Study of the Islamic Laze of Inheritance and Fante Customary Law of Inheritance, was published in both English and French by the CSIC. Dr. Buaben has also contributed a number of articles on Islam in different journals. IMAGE OF THE PROPHET MUHAMMAD IN THE WEST brings out the main contours of Western scholarship on the life and achievements of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It traces remnants of the negative image of the Prophet found in medieval polemical works to twentieth-century works, especially those of the three most influential English writers of our tunes - William Muir, David S. Margoliouth and William M. Watt. In addition to mapping out the chequered history of relations between the West and Islam it helps one gain or renew acquaintance with the exemplary life and great achievements of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). THE ISLAMIC FOUNDATION is an educational and research organization devoted to making Islam a living reality in our age. For this purpose, it aims to improv...read more

The biography of the Prophet is a very noble and exalted subject by which Muslims learn about the rise of Islam, and how Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was chosen by Allah to receive the divine revelation. You also learn about the hardships the Prophet (pbuh) and his companions faced, and how they eventually succeeded with Allah's help. This book adds to where Ar-Raheeq Al-Makhtum left off. Its clear, yet precise narration of the life of the Prophet makes it a great compliment to Ar-Raheeq Al-Makhtum. Over 6 months of editing, a masterpiece on the life of the Prophet, this book explains the life of the Prophet in the light of Authentic Ahadith and the Qur'an.

10. War and Peace In the Life of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW)
By Zakaria Bashier

War and Peace in the Life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), seeks to bring into sharper focus the relevance of the Prophet's exemplary life in our times. In doing so, the misperception is allayed that Islam is inextricably linked with violence. That Islam preaches and practises the ideals of peaceful coexistence and freedom of faith is brought home with reference to the elucidation of the Quranic verses which allow Muslims to wage war, if necessary. The same truth is illustrated by analyzing the Prophet's conduct in war and his measures for ensuring peace. All the major battles in the early history of Islam are studied in the wider context of Islamic teachings on war and peace . Zakaria Bashier (b. 1940) obtained his BA and M.Litt. in Philosophy from the Universitites of Khartoum, Sudan and Durham, UK respectively, and his PhD on Islamic Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh, USA. Apart from holding faculty positions at the universities of Sudan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, he had also been the Vice Chancellor of the University of Juba, Sudan. Presently he is Visiting Professor at the Markfield Institute of Higher Education, Leicester, UK. He has to his credit 14 books in Arabic and 8 in English, besides scores of articles in Journals on a wide range of topics related to Islamic Studies. The present work concludes the series of his books on Sira; the earlier titles being Life of the Prophet in Makkah, Hijra: Story and Significance and Sunshine at Madina all publishe...read more

11. Miracles of the Holy Prophet (SAW)
By Ibn Kathir

"The Prophet's Miracles" is a selection from Ibn Kathir's al-Bidayah wan-Nihaya. During his preaching, the Prophet was often called upon to demonstrate miracles. And, he did oblige those who demanded like the splitting of the moon. However, certain miracles were part of his mission like the Quran. Allah revealed it to him and it is a lasting miracle till the end of the world. Then, there are so many things that he said will happen as also the signs of the Last Day.... We see many of them coming true as others will take place. Miracles of other Prophets have also been narrated. At the same time, Ibn Kathir (RA) has sifted the fabricated accounts which have found themselves in books of Sirah.

13. Muhammad His Life Based on Earliest Sources
By Martin Lings

click here for reviews  (14 reviews)

Martin Lings's Life of Muhammad is unlike any other. Based on Arabic sources of the eighth and ninth centuries, of which some important passages are translated here for the first time, it owes the freshness and directness of its approach to the words of the men and women who heard Muhammad speak and witnessed the events of his life. Martin Lings has an unusual gift for narrative. He has adopted a style which is at once extremely readable and reflects both the simplicity and grandeur of the story. The result is something that can be read with equal enjoyment by those already familiar with Muhanumad's life and those coming to it for the first time. This book was awarded a prize by the government of Pakistan, and selected as the best biography of the prophet in English at the National Seerat Conference held in 1983 at Islamabad. Since then it has been published in French, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Dutch, Malay and Tamil, and is shortly to be published in Arabic, German, Urdu, Sindhi and Sinhalese. In 1990, after the book had attracted the attention of the Azhar University in Cairo, the author received a decoration from President Mubarak.
