2. Perceptions of Islam in European Writings
By Ahmad Gunny

SALE

PERCEPTIONS OF ISLAM IN EUROPEAN WRITINGS is part of the wider study of Islam and the West: a history of European, mainly French and English, intellectual responses to Islam from the seventeenth century onwards. It focuses on the nineteenth century. Studies on Islam and the West have so far tended to be dominated by nonMuslim writers. This study, therefore, attempts to put forward a scholarly, Muslim, point of view, on a subject which has acquired increasing importance in our time. Relying on primary European and Islamic source materials, it remains firmly committed to the notion of fidelity to European thought. It paves the way to a constructive dialogue between equals, Islam and the West. AHMAD GUNNY first joined the Civil Service in Mauritius. Posted to London, he served at the Mauritius High Commission as Second Secretary and later became First Secretary. Educated at Leeds, Oxford and London Universities, he was awarded a Ph.D in French, London. For many years he taught French at Liverpool University, becoming Reader there before being elected Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies. In Oxford he gives Seminars on Islam and the West at Colleges of the University, OCIS and Maison Francaise. Among his works are: Voltaire and English Literature (Oxford, 1979), Images of Islam in Eighteenth-Century Writings (London, 1996) and critical editions of Voltaire texts, including De l'Alcoran et de Mahomet, in Complete Works (Oxford, 2002). THE ISLAMIC FOUNDATION is an educ...read more

By Muhammad Yasin Mazhar Siddiqi

SALE

The Prophet Muhammad A Role Model for Muslim Minorities The Prophet Muhammad A Role Model for Muslim Minorities studies the Prophet Muhammad’s illustrious life from a refreshingly new angle. It identifies what guidance the Prophet’s example offers for Muslims living as a minority. So doing, the author examines insightfully how Islam was practised in Makkah, how Muslims led their lives as migrants in Abyssinia and how Muslim minorities were treated by the Islamic state of Madinah. The book, based on original Arabic sources, guides Muslims extensively how to co-exist peacefully with non-Muslims.

5. Cure of our Worries From Holy Qu'an
By Muaulana Muhammad Shafique

Cure of our Worries From Holy Qur'an. The Quran is the only Book that provides us with good for religion and the world. In its recital and observance of its commands lies deliverance from our worries. We must recite it with a resolve to gain Allah's pleasure and through that we will drive other advantages. We ma' perhaps also get any other objective through its recital but then we will not gain Allah's pleasure. Some of ur elders used its verses to solve ieir anxieties and illnesses and found it helpful. Then they passed on their eperiences to the masses for the good of the common Muslims. We must make these invocations only as proved and established remedies but not as bases of faith and conviction that this method of treatment is an objective of the Quran.

6. Rethinking Islam and Modernity
By Abdelwahab El-Affendi

SALE

This book, which originated in a conference held to honour Dr. Fathi Osman, starts with a redefinition of what modernity signifies. Rejecting ideological and ethnocentric definitions of modernity, the contributors depart from the understanding that Islam is already an important component of life in the modern world. The discussion focuses specifically on the moral challenge posed by modernity to Islamic beliefs and thinking, in particular the questions raised by modern thinking and practice in the areas of democracy, human rights and the status of minorities. The contributors approach these questions from different angles, but agree on the need to offer creative but Islamically authentic responses to these challenges. In the process, they challenge some dominant conceptions both within modern and Islamic thinking. DR. ABDELWAHAB EL-AFFENDI is a Senior Research Fellow and Co-ordinator of the Project on Democracy in the Muslim World at the Centre for the Study of Democracy, University of Westminster, London. His publications include, Turabi's Revolution: Islam and Power in Sudan and Who Needs an Islamic State? THE ISLAMIC FOUNDATION is an educational and research organization devoted to making Islam a living reality in our age. For this purpose, it aims to improve human communication and develop a better understanding of Islam among all people of the world, Muslim and non-Muslim, so as to galvanize man to the message and ideal of One God and the unity of mankind, as brought ...read more

9. The Ideological Attack
By Abdul-Azeez Bin Baaz

By the end of the first decade of the fifteenth Islaamic century (1410H/1990CE), the world witnessed a total re-shaping of its socio-political landscape; a re-shaping that again was to have a serious impact upon the Islaamic world. With the collapse of communist Russia as a dominant world force, it was Islaam and the Islaamic lands that then became the main focal targets for the economic ideological and military attack of the New World Order; the now dominant culture. In effect, it was the beginnings of the second Crusades! Consequently: "The Muslims today face a barbaric onslaught from their enemies-the Jews, Christians, atheists, secularists, and others. The Islaamic lands are being invaded by various forms of unbelief and deviations; and throughout the Islaamic lands the winds of desires and corruption blows, the likes of which cannot be truly known except by Allaah, Lord of the servants. Supported by a demonic global plan as well as unlimited financial backing, this attack aims at domination and hegemony over the Islaamic world; dividing it, attacking it culturally and morally and perverting the true image of the Religion. Therefore, it is amongst the priorities of the Islaamic call (da'wah) to break this attack and to counter it with every legitimate means of da'wah possible." The book addresses the nature of the ideological attack against the Muslim Ummah. It discusses the rationale behind this attack, its objectives, its scale, as well as the means employed by the enem...read more

10. Struggling to Surrender
By Jeffrey Lang

STRUGGLING TO SURRENDER - Impressions of an American Convert To Islam This is a very personal account of one man's search for God and meaning in the midst of a culture that places no value on such a quest. Dr Lang was brought up as a Catholic and educated in a Catholic school. However, one day he found that his religious beliefs could no longer provide satisfactory answers to his questions. And so his quest began: agnosticism, atheism and finally "coincidence" -a chance encounter with a Muslim student in one of his classes that eventually led to his conversion. As he soon found out, however, this was not the end of the matter, for now he had to fit in with his new community, its beliefs and traditions and the Islamic worldview and lifestyle. For converts living in the West, many of whom come from a Judeo-Christian background and a mental framework that is almost totally alien to that of a traditional Muslim - this is no easy feat. How does one deal with the demands for the blind acceptance of hadith and accepted interpretations, the gulf between what the Qur'an says and the reality of Muslim life, the "status" of women, the presence of religion in every sphere of one's life, cultural conflicts and many other issues? Ever since his conversio, Dr Lang has struggled to answer these questions for himself. At the request of numerous Muslim acquaintances, he decided to write about his experiences so that other American and western-educated Muslims could benefit from...read more

11. The Disasters Darwinism Brought to Humanity
By Harun Yahya

he 20th century, which we have just left behind us, was a century of war and conflict, leading to disasters, pain, massacres, poverty, and enormous destruction. Millions of people were killed, massacred, abandoned to hunger and death, and left without home or shelter, protection, or support. And all for nothing: in the name of serving deviant ideologies. On nearly every occasion there were despots' and dictators' signatures beneath all the suffering and disasters: Stalin, Lenin, Trotsky, Mao, Pol Pot, Hitler, Mussolini, Franco... For the simple reason that their ideologies were opposed to each other, these people dragged societies into conflict and turned brother against brother. Fascism and Communism come at the head of the ideologies that caused mankind to suffer those dark days. These are seen as enemies, as ideas that tried to destroy each other. In actual fact, there is a most interesting truth here: for these ideologies were nourished by a single ideological source, drew strength and support from that source, and, thanks to that source, were able to draw societies to their side That source is the materialist philosophy, and DARWINISM, the state of that philosophy as adapted to nature. If everyone comes to know the scientific invalidity of this theory, that will spell the end of these harmful ideologies. Those who do evil will have no more so-called scientific backing for their self-centred, selfish, and pitiless world view. ABOUT THE AUTHOR he author has written o...read more

13. Gaza Stay Human
By Arrigoni Vittorio

Had the pacifist International Solidarity Movement not been in Gaza at the time, the world would have been deprived of a detailed account from the inside, having instead to rely on the generalised accounts of news agencies reporting from outside the Strip. This brief yet precious volume stands alone, along with a precious few others, as a direct eye-witness account of Gaza's last bloodbath. The English edition features a new authoritative introduction by the renowned Israeli academic Ilan Pappe and further dispatches of life in Gaza eight months after Operation Cast Lead.

20. British Muslims Loyalty and Belonging
By Mohammad, Dilwar and Nadeem Hussain, Seddon and Malik

GEORGE ORWELL famously wrote in his book, Animal Farm, that, `all are equal but some are more equal than others'. The question of political, racial and religious equality is an ongoing debate within the context of a modern secular nation-state like Britain. When national identity is constructed around specific ideas and notions of race and religion, multi-cultural diversity and religious pluralism are negated via exclusivity. As a result, any social entities existing outside the concepts of a very definite and exclusive national identity are treated as `other'. Muslims in Britain are often viewed in terms of `otherness'. They are also measured by their responses to their religious and national identities particularly when there is a clear contention resulting in a question of loyalty. `A true and faithful allegiance to the legitimate sovereign or government of one's country', would perhaps be an accurate description of `loyalty' within the context of citizenship and nationality. But for one to truly experience and manifest loyalty the feeling of inclusion and belonging must already be firmly established. Belonging would suggest that one is fully included in a specific member group, or in this case nation, and that the particular rights regarding individual inclusion within the member group are assigned. Belonging, therefore, is the precursor to loyalty and that, because one cannot belong without a sense of loyalty, both idioms are possibly interdependent. In response to the ...read more
