In July 2003, British Muslim artist Sami Yusuf released his debut album Al Mu’allim to unprecedented acclaim and success. It was the first album by an Islamic artist to receive such success in Europe, North America, North Africa, Turkey, the Middle East, and Asia, with hits like “Al Mu’allim”, “Who Is the Loved One”, and “Ya Mustafa” being on the tongues of Muslim children and adults from London to Casablanca, and from Istanbul to Kuala Lumpur, making Sami a household name in all those regions, and selling over 1 million copies worldwide.
Now 2 years later, Sami’s second album, entitled “My Ummah,” is ready. It's a genre transcending album with melodies and lyrics that grab you after the very first listen-through. Clearly, Sami’s uniqueness is the special mix of different cultures and artistic influences that he beautifully blends into amazing songs not limited by narrow genres, but seamlessly combining several with ease. “My Ummah” has all the ingredients to become another worldwide success, inshallah. The new album deals with – amongst other things - issues such as unity, spirituality, sisters’ struggle to wear the scarf, terrorism, human brotherhood, faith, and songs about Allah and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

I bought the other version first and thought it was excellent. I was intrigued to find there was another version, so I bought it too. It too is excellent, in fact some of the versions are better. It is a pity that it only has the 10 tracks though. |

Assalamu Alikum, brother sami. i love the percussion version much more than the musical version. the lyrics in the perussion version entered my heart faster than the musical version. but it had less songs than the musical version and that was a bit disappointing. i loved the song mother more in the arabic version. i love how you have arabic and english together. May Allah rewared u for u'r work. |

This album is very nice to listen. But music is haram and prohibited by our Almighty god Allah subahanahuthala and our beloved prophet MUHAMMADH(SAW).There is no way we can find something from Islam to make music is permisable.ALLAH KNOWS BEST.
Samy yusuf you have a beautiful voice granted by ALLAH but I am sorry. Your action is haraam.

I do love the Al-mu'allim album however I am getting to like the Ummah. I heard the musical version and like many think the instruments are too much. I definatly prefer the percussion version. The lyrics are definatly worth pondering on. May Allah(swt) bless and inspire brother Sami to do more inspirational nasheeds. |

This "Percussion Version" in no way makes the music of Sami Yusuf Halal for Muslims to listen to. Just listen to the sound clip to hear a wide range of instruments, many of which are not percussion at all. |

I want to buy his album well both of them but i want versions without music at all or any beats. Which one should i get or do i have to wait. Im guessing the precussion is a few beats and music is the music. |

To me i think the guy is probably trying to get boys and girls who don't really have an intrest of listening to islam in this type of way, he is trying to grab their attension to seek sense that you can listen to music but also learn the meaning of islam at the same time, which could eventually get people to see sense that you are a muslim and you have duties as being a muslim, which is why i think he is doing a good job!
Not many people can just have same intensions of learning about islam, people are different. By the way sami yusaf and rap go really well. Good thinking for those who like to listen to rap music!!!
To me there is no problem!
To me he has succeeded very well, from where i live he has touched alot of peoples heart.

The Percussion version is the version that just uses instruments that are 'hit' to make a noise i.e drum, symbols, xylophone, etc. as opposed to string or wind instruments.
Some of the same tracks on the albums sound quite different in their music and persussion form. Is it worth buying both albums? That depends, if you listen to Sami Yusuf and notice the complexity of the musical arrangements and production then you it would be worth buying both versions, but if you listen mainly for the lyrics then, no. |

There is a difference of opinion on the rulings for musical instruments by the scholars. Some say instruments are not allowed, other scholars say that as long as musical instruments are used in music that remembers and glorifies Allah then it is permissible. And Allah knows best. |
