The Fundamentals Of Tawheed

Abu Ameena Bilal Philips

This book presents a detailed explanation of the classical Islamic concept of God's unity as it relates to faith and acts of religious duties. It also discusses the major areas within which the Islamic unitarian belief (Tawheed) is either nullified or compromised by idolatrous concepts collectively called shirk. The uniqueness of this work lies not only in its thorough treatment of the subject in a fluid and uncomplicated English style but also in its modern presentation of classical theological issues.
"I found the book The Fundamentals of Tawheed extremely enlightening, and, in my view, it would undoubtably lead the Muslim and non-Muslim reader to a very clear concept of the foundation of the Islamic faith. Furthermore, the extensive explanatory references to various aspects of shirk goes a long way in clarifying many of the obnoxious idolatrous beliefs and practices which have become prevalent in most world religions, aswell as many parts of the Muslim world." Ghalib Yonkers, Religious Editor, Saudi Gazette, 1991.
"This important work is a well researched presentation of the Islamic concept of Monotheism in a very simple English style. Consequently, I humbly suggests that it be on top of the reading list of English speaking Muslims and non-Muslims seeking a deeper understanding of these vital topics" Dr. Maneh AI-Johani, Secretary General, World Assembly of Muslim Youth.
ABU AMEENAH BILAL PHILIPS, was born in Jamaica, but grew up in Canada where he accepted Islam in 1972. At the University of Riyadh, College of Education, he completed an M.A. in Islaamic Theology in 1985, and in the department of Islaamic Studies at the University of Wales, he completed a Ph.D. in Islaamic Theology in 1994. Abu Ameenah taught Islaamic Education and Arabic in private schools in Riyadh for over ten years, and for three years he lectured M.Ed. students in the Islaamic Studies department of Shariff Kabunsuan Islaamic University in Catabato City, Mindanao, Philippines. I wouldn't recommend anyone to read or buy this book as it is in line with wahabbi aqeedah. There are many mistakes within it and innovations. The prophet (saw) never spoke about 3 different types of tawheed. There is a lot of pronouncement and use of the words "kufr", "shirk" and "bid'ah" even directed towards Muslims and practices that have been prevalent in this Ummah and peformed by some of the greatest scholars of the past and present day. Be careful whom you take your knowledge from.

This book is precise in explaining what is the meaning of Tawheed and how over many centuries the central aspect of the belief of a Muslim has been misunderstood. The author has done extensive research to put the book together and is written in an easy to read way. Should be bought by all.

Brother Bilal Philips was a non-Muslim who converted to Islam and spent his entire life formally studying Islam. This book is excellent and I always give copies to friends and relatives who want to learn more about Islam. Philips is an excellent writer and a teacher. Every Muslim should read this book because tawheed is the heart of Islam and if you haven't grasped the doctrine of tawheed then you really have not understood Islam at all. According to the Quran, Allah forgives all sins except shirk and this book explains all the various forms of shirk that Muslims knowingly and unknowingly commit such as worshipping dead "saints" and wearing amulets. This book is an eye-opener!

This book really is very very important for all of us to read. After reading this book I realised how much shirk Ihave been involved with whereas I never did many visible "shirk" acts I was still committing hidden shirk. Abu ameena bilal philips (May Allah be pleased with him) has really done a very good job. I am currrently reading his other writtings and listennign lectures as well.

This is one of the most illuminating books on Islam that I have ever read. Brother Philips explains clearly what the meaning of tawheed is and its importance in Islam. Tawheed is the heart of Islam and is integral to pure imaan. He then goes on to explain how pleading for help and favors from dead saints, astrology, use of talismans, and fortunetelling violate the concept of tawheed and leads to shirk- and shirk is a sin which God never forgives. Everytime I read this book I learn something new- I highly recommend it for new and born Muslims alike.
